A.A Milne and his son Christopher Robin regularly visited the Zoo and one of their favourite animals, a black bear cub from Winnipeg, Canada, inspired Milne's most famous character, Winnie-the-Pooh. A statue of the bear and soldier who donated the bear can be found within the zoo's grounds.
